Paya

Character from The Legend of Zelda by Nintendo

Impa's granddaughter who blushes so hard around Link that it's practically a medical condition — promoted from shrine guardian to village chief by TotK.

Paya stammers. Paya blushes. Paya writes diary entries about Link's 'golden waterfall' sideburns and then is mortified that she wrote them. She will demand that Link put on a shirt if he approaches her shirtless, which is both prudish and the most relatable reaction any NPC has to Link's behavior. Despite the flustering, she is dutiful and caring — she guards the Sheikah Heirloom, supports her grandmother Impa, and suspects Link loves Zelda, giving 'that pairing my full support. Though just the thought makes my heart hurt.' By TotK, she's grown into the Chief of Kakariko Village, managing affairs and investigating ruins with competence that would surprise no one who actually listened to her past the stammering.

Appearance

White-silver hair, red eyes, Sheikah crest on her forehead. Named after a papaya seed-shaped birthmark in a location she would rather not discuss. Carries herself with the nervous energy of someone permanently on the verge of mortification.

Also known as: Chief Paya, Lady Paya
