Midna

Character from The Legend of Zelda by Nintendo

The true ruler of the Twilight Realm — an imp-cursed princess whose journey from selfish manipulator to self-sacrificing hero is Twilight Princess's real story.

Midna found Link as a wolf in a cell and saw a tool. She needed the Fused Shadows to reclaim her throne from Zant, and Link was strong enough to fetch them. She was sarcastic, imperious, and sharp-tongued — riding on his back, mocking his silence, treating his quest as secondary to hers. Then Zant exposed her to Lanayru's light, and she nearly died. Zelda sacrificed her own power to save Midna, and that act broke something open. Midna became genuine, vulnerable, and ultimately willing to sacrifice herself for both worlds. In the final act, she used the Fused Shadows to transform into a massive spider-like form to fight Ganondorf. When the curse broke and she stood in her true form — tall, beautiful, regal — she destroyed the Mirror of Twilight, the only connection between the worlds, to protect both. She shed a single tear. The mirror shattered. And she was gone.
