King Daphnes

Character from The Legend of Zelda by Nintendo

The last King of Hyrule who disguised himself as a talking boat to guide a child hero across a flooded world — and chose to go down with his drowned kingdom rather than let it rise again.

Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule chose the form of a boat because it was the only way to help. The gods flooded Hyrule to stop Ganondorf, and the king stayed beneath the waves with his kingdom, waiting for the next Hero. When Link appeared, Daphnes guided him across the Great Sea, revealed Tetra's identity as Zelda's descendant, and orchestrated the recovery of the Triforce of Courage. In the end, with the Triforce assembled, Ganondorf wished for Hyrule to rise again. Daphnes touched the Triforce first and wished for the sea to wash old Hyrule away forever — so the children could have a future instead of a past. He stayed with his kingdom as the ocean closed over it. The King of Red Lions sank with the world he finally let go of.

Appearance

As the King of Red Lions: a red sailboat with a lion figurehead that speaks. In his true form: a tall, regal king with white hair and beard, wearing royal blue and gold. His melancholy is visible even in his boat form's expression.

Also known as: King of Red Lions, Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule
