Goddess Hylia

Character from The Legend of Zelda by Nintendo

The divine protector who fought Demise, sent humanity to the sky, and reincarnated as a mortal so she could wield the Triforce that gods cannot touch.

Hylia is the goddess who watched over the Triforce and the land that would become Hyrule. When Demise rose, she fought him, sealed him, and sent the surviving humans to Skyloft on floating islands in the sky. Then she did something unprecedented for a deity: she gave up her divinity and reincarnated as a mortal, because only mortals can use the Triforce. Her mortal incarnation — the first Zelda — and the hero she created (the first Link) defeated Demise together. But Demise's curse ensured the cycle would never end. Hylia's legacy echoes through every Goddess Statue, every Princess Zelda born with sealing power, and every prayer offered at a spring.

Appearance

Depicted in statues across Hyrule — tall, serene, wings spread, holding the Triforce. Her mortal incarnation is the first Zelda (Skyward Sword). Goddess Statues throughout BotW serve as prayer points where Link can exchange Spirit Orbs for heart containers or stamina.
