The final destination — where Abby was captured by the Rattlers, where Ellie came to finish her revenge, and where she chose to stop.
Santa Barbara is Part II's final act. Abby and Lev were captured by the Rattlers (slavers) en route to the Firefly remnant on Catalina Island. Ellie tracked them here, freed them from the Rattler compound, and then forced the final fight on the beach. The beach scene — Ellie drowning Abby, then stopping, then sitting in the water crying — is the series' emotional climax. Ellie chose to let go. It cost her everything (Dina left, she can't play guitar because she's missing fingers) and gave her nothing except the possibility that the cycle of violence stops here.
Sun-bleached Southern California — a contrast to Seattle's green wetness. The Rattler compound is a fortified resort turned slave camp. The beach where Ellie and Abby's final confrontation occurs is beautiful: blue water, golden sand, and two emaciated women trying to kill each other.
