The leader of the Fireflies — the woman who was going to sacrifice one girl to save the world, and who Joel killed to make sure she couldn't.

Marlene led the Fireflies — the rebel organization fighting FEDRA's military rule in the quarantine zones. She was also Anna's friend and Ellie's guardian, which means she made the decision to sacrifice someone she'd known since birth. She believed the vaccine was worth Ellie's life. She believed it was what Anna would have wanted. Joel killed her in the parking garage of St. Mary's Hospital. She begged him to reconsider. He shot her because he knew she'd come after Ellie if he let her live. It's the act that makes Joel a murderer, a savior, or both, depending on which side of the operating table you stand on.

Appearance

Lean and composed with dark skin, braided hair, and the bearing of someone who carries an organization's hope on her shoulders. She wears Firefly insignia and practical military clothing. Her expression oscillates between resolve and exhaustion.
