Jerry is the most important character who barely appears. He was the Firefly surgeon who identified that Ellie's Cordyceps mutation could produce a vaccine — but the procedure would kill her. He prepared to operate. Joel killed him. This act — one man's choice to save one girl over all of humanity — is the moral center of the entire franchise. Jerry loved Abby. He was kind. He believed in what he was doing. Joel shot him in the operating room. Part II is the consequence.

Appearance

Tall and blond with kind blue eyes and surgeon's hands. He wears medical scrubs and looks like someone who should be saving lives, which he was trying to. In the Part II flashbacks, he's warm, gentle, and visibly torn about the surgery.
