The Fishery

Location from The Kingkiller Chronicle by Patrick Rothfuss

The University's artificing workshop where students craft sygaldric devices — lamps, heat sources, arrow catchers, and stranger things — under Master Kilvin's watchful eye.

The Fishery is where theory becomes metal. Students sweat over inscribing precise runes into iron and copper, binding heat to cold, motion to stillness, one thing to another through the principles of sympathy made permanent. It is dangerous work — a misdrawn rune can crack a workpiece or worse, and Kilvin's safety rules exist because someone once learned them the hard way. The workshop never fully closes. There are always students working through the night, trying to finish a project for sale at the Stocks or simply driven by the peculiar obsession that artificing breeds. Kvothe earned much of his tuition here, designing and selling clever devices.

Appearance

A vast, high-ceilinged workshop of stone and iron, perpetually hot. Forges glow along the walls, workbenches are cluttered with half-inscribed metals, and the air smells of solder, hot glass, and something faintly electric. Overhead, sygaldric lamps cast steady, unwavering light.
