The Cthaeh's tree is the most dangerous place in either world. The Cthaeh sees all possible futures with perfect clarity and uses this knowledge to cause the greatest possible harm through conversation alone. It does not lie — every word it speaks is true — but truth in the mouth of something that can see all consequences is more dangerous than any falsehood. The butterflies that rest on the tree are beautiful, and the Cthaeh kills them one by one, slowly, because it can and because cruelty is its nature.
