Katniss's Bow

Item from The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

A custom-made silver bow and arrows — the weapon that made the Girl on Fire lethal, from hunting squirrels in the woods of District 12 to shooting down a Capitol hovercraft.

Katniss learned to shoot with her father's hunting bow — a crude wooden thing that kept her family alive after his death. In the arena, the bow transformed her from a desperate survivor into the most dangerous tribute on the field. The Gamemakers knew she'd scored an 11 in training by shooting at them; they placed a bow in the Cornucopia knowing it would create spectacular television. They didn't anticipate she'd use it to destroy their game. Beetee's military-grade bow — designed for the Mockingjay — was a weapon of war: explosive arrows, incendiary tips, a quiver that selected ammunition by voice command. But the symbol mattered more than the engineering. When Katniss drew her bow, it meant someone in power was about to learn they weren't as untouchable as they believed.

Appearance

A sleek silver bow of Capitol engineering, elegant and deadly. Paired with a sheath of perfectly balanced arrows — some tipped with explosive or incendiary heads. Later versions were custom-designed by Beetee for the Mockingjay's arsenal.

Also known as: Katniss's bow, the silver bow, the Mockingjay's bow
