Wiress

Character from The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

District 3 Victor — eccentric, brilliant, half-lost in her own mind — who figured out the clock arena when no one else could, repeating 'tick tock' until Katniss finally listened.

Wiress is a genius whose mind works in ways that make social interaction difficult. She figured out the Quarter Quell arena was a clock — each section triggering a different horror on a twelve-hour rotation — and communicated it the only way she could: 'tick tock, tick tock.' Johanna dismissed her. Katniss listened. Wiress was killed by Gloss at the Cornucopia shortly after, because the arena doesn't reward intelligence. It rewards violence.

Appearance

Mousy and middle-aged with an unfocused gaze and fidgeting hands. She trails off mid-sentence and stares at things no one else notices. She looks fragile and distracted — until you realize she's processing patterns everyone else is missing.
