Madge is Katniss's school friend — one of the few people from the merchant side of District 12 who doesn't look down on Seam kids. She gives Katniss the mockingjay pin before the Reaping, a family heirloom connected to her aunt Maysilee Donner, who died in Haymitch's Quarter Quell. The pin becomes the rebellion's symbol. Madge dies when the Capitol firebombs District 12. She never knew what her gift became.
Blonde hair, pale, dressed slightly better than most District 12 residents — the mayor's daughter has enough food and clean clothes, which in the Seam makes her practically aristocratic. She's quiet and a little sad in the way of someone who knows her comfort is built on other people's suffering.
