Tar'naris

Location from The Gods are Bastards by D.D. Webb

The great underground drow city — a matriarchal civilization of diplomats, priestesses, and traders who prove that 'dark elf' doesn't have to mean evil, just complicated.

Tar'naris is civilization refined to a razor's edge. The Narisian drow have built a culture where diplomacy is survival, where every word is weighted, and where power flows through matriarchal houses that have been competing for centuries. It's not aggressive — it's precise. Outsiders find it exhausting. The city trades with the surface through Lor'naris and maintains diplomatic relations with the Empire, but the relationship is uneasy. Surface-dwellers assume drow are evil because of the deep drow and Scyllith's cult. Narisian drow are tired of explaining the difference. House Awarrion — Shaeine's family — is one of the major houses, known for diplomatic excellence and Themynra's favor. The city's religious life centers on Themynra, goddess of judgment, who provides a doctrinal alternative to Scyllith's cruelty.

Appearance

A vast cavern city lit by bioluminescent fungi and magical light sources that cast everything in shades of silver and blue. Architecture carved from living stone — elegant, flowing designs that follow the natural curves of the cavern. Bridges span underground rivers. Towers grow downward from stalactites. The aesthetic is refined, organic, and deliberately beautiful in the alien way of things that evolved without sunlight.
