Item from The Gods are Bastards by D.D. Webb
The magical telegraph — enchanted communication towers that connect the Tiraan Empire's cities, providing instant long-distance messaging in a world where railroads are still new.
Scrolltowers are the information infrastructure of the Tiraan Empire — the equivalent of a telegraph network but powered by arcane enchantment rather than electricity. They carry news, military orders, commercial communications, and personal messages across the continent at the speed of magic. They represent the world's transition from magical to technological thinking — the problem (long-distance communication) is solved with enchantment, but the solution is deployed like infrastructure. The scrolltower network is maintained by an operator corps and regulated by the Empire. Disrupting the network is both difficult and politically explosive.
Tall stone or metal towers topped with crystalline arrays that pulse with arcane energy during transmission. Found in every significant town and city. The base contains an operator's station with enchanted scroll mechanisms that record and transmit messages. The arrays glow faintly at all times — a constant background hum of magical activity.
