Tricks

Character from The Gods are Bastards by D.D. Webb

The Style — high priest of Eserion and head of the Thieves' Guild, a master of disguise who has worn so many faces that the original might be just another mask.

Tricks runs the Thieves' Guild with the organizational precision of a corporate executive and the moral flexibility of someone who considers laws a form of cultural fiction. They're practical, efficient, and completely unromantic about thievery — it's a profession, a calling, and a form of social correction, not an adventure. They communicate through layers of misdirection even when there's no need for secrecy, because the habit of concealment is indistinguishable from personality at this point. They're respected within the Guild for being fair, feared for being competent, and trusted because an Eserite who breaks their word loses everything. Their relationship with Darling is mentorship shading into partnership — Darling is their most ambitious project and their most likely successor, and they're not entirely sure how they feel about that.

Appearance

Changes constantly — Tricks is a master of disguise whose 'true' appearance is deliberately uncertain. Most commonly seen as an unremarkable middle-aged person of ambiguous gender, dressed in whatever allows them to blend into the current environment. The only constant is a certain quality of watchfulness in the eyes.
