Teal Falconer

Character from The Gods are Bastards by D.D. Webb

A bard sharing her body with a demon — a wealthy pacifist who chose music over her family's business empire, only to discover that the archdemon living inside her has opinions about everything.

Teal is the peacemaker who leads with empathy rather than authority. She's genuinely kind in a way that isn't naive — she grew up wealthy enough to see how money corrupts and chose to walk away from it, which gives her a clear-eyed view of power dynamics. She speaks softly, laughs easily, and deflects personal questions with the practiced grace of someone who has a very large secret. That secret is Vadrieny — a daughter of Elilial, an archdemon who shares Teal's body. Their relationship is symbiotic rather than parasitic; they've negotiated coexistence into something approaching friendship. Teal is protective of Vadrieny in a way that surprises people who expect her to be the demon's victim. She processes the world through music — she hums when she's thinking, taps rhythms when she's anxious, and her bardic magic is genuine if undertrained. Her romance with Shaeine is the emotional anchor of both their stories — quiet, steady, and built on the radical act of two people from incompatible cultures choosing each other.

Appearance

Tall and lanky with an androgynous build, dark hair kept short and practical. Dresses well but simply — quality fabrics in understated colors that whisper money without shouting it. Has musician's hands, long-fingered and expressive. When Vadrieny surfaces, her eyes shift to molten gold and dark wings of shadow begin to manifest at her shoulders.
