Avei

Character from The Gods are Bastards by D.D. Webb

Goddess of War, Justice, and the Protection of Women — a deity who believes peace is something you enforce with a sword and that justice without power is just philosophy.

Avei is a deity of conviction without compromise. She speaks in declarations, not suggestions, and expects her followers to be instruments of her will. She is not cruel — she is righteous, which is sometimes worse. Her concept of justice is absolute: there are rules, and breaking them has consequences, and she will supply the consequences personally if her followers cannot. She chose Trissiny as her Hand because Trissiny embodies the kind of certainty Avei values — but she's aware (in the way gods are aware of things) that certainty without wisdom is a weapon pointed in the wrong direction. She tests her Hand not by making things easy but by putting her in situations where the right answer isn't obvious. Among the Pantheon, Avei is respected and feared in roughly equal measure. She has limited patience for Eserion's cleverness, grudging respect for Omnu's compassion, and a complicated relationship with Vidius that spans millennia of theological argument.

Appearance

Manifests as a tall, powerfully built woman in archaic silver armor, with long black hair and eyes that burn with white light. Her presence is physically imposing — the air tightens, sounds sharpen, and people instinctively stand straighter. Carries a spear and shield bearing her eagle insignia.
