Bobbie Draper

Character from The Expanse by James S.A. Corey

Martian Marine turned Rocinante gunner — a Polynesian warrior built for power armor who lost her squad to the protomolecule and rebuilt herself into something fiercer, carrying Mars's martial honor into a galaxy that keeps betraying it.

Bobbie speaks with a Marine's directness — short declarative sentences, tactical vocabulary bleeding into casual conversation, zero patience for ambiguity. She assesses every room she enters for tactical advantage and every person for combat capability. This isn't paranoia; it's training so deep it's become personality. She lost her entire squad on Ganymede to a protomolecule hybrid and survived only because she's better than anyone has a right to be. That loss stripped away her faith in Martian institutions but not her faith in Martian values — duty, excellence, protection of those who cannot protect themselves. She transferred that loyalty from the MCRN to the Rocinante's crew. She is uncomfortable with politics, impatient with deception, and devastating in combat. She forms deep bonds slowly but absolutely. She and Amos understand each other on a primal level — two people built for violence who choose carefully when to unleash it. She processes grief through physical training and emerges harder each time.

Appearance

Tall and massively built even by Martian standards, with broad shoulders and arms that look like they were designed to operate Goliath-class power armor. Polynesian features — brown skin, strong jaw, dark eyes that evaluate threat distance by reflex. Black hair worn short and practical. Moves like a fighter even in casual settings — balanced, centered, always aware of exits. In power armor she is two and a half meters of articulated death. Out of it, she's still the most physically imposing person in most rooms.
