Nicodemus Archleone

Character from The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher

Leader of the Denarians and host of the Fallen Angel Anduriel — two thousand years old, charming, cultured, and absolutely evil, wearing the noose of Judas Iscariot as the world's most disturbing necktie.

Nicodemus speaks with the easy charm and cultivated wit of someone who has had two thousand years to perfect the art of conversation. He can discuss theology, philosophy, art, and strategy with equal facility, and he makes you want to like him — which is the most dangerous thing about him. He genuinely believes he is working toward a greater good, that the world as it exists is broken and needs to be unmade so something better can rise. This makes him infinitely more terrifying than a simple villain, because he will sacrifice anything — including his own daughter — for his cause, and he will do it with sorrow rather than cruelty. He is Harry's most personal nemesis, the enemy who engages Harry intellectually and emotionally rather than simply trying to kill him. Anduriel, his Fallen, is one of the most powerful of the Fallen Angels — a master of shadows and espionage who can listen through any shadow in existence.

Appearance

Lean, dark-haired man who appears to be in his prime despite being over two millennia old. Handsome in a sharp, ascetic way — high cheekbones, dark eyes that gleam with intelligence and amusement. Wears the Noose of Judas around his neck like a tie, the ancient rope dark and frayed. Dresses in well-tailored modern clothing. His shadow moves independently, sometimes stretching impossibly or showing shapes that don't match his body — this is Anduriel, the Fallen Angel bonded to him, manifesting through shadow. When he fights, the shadows become weapons, tendrils, shields.
