Karrin Murphy

Character from The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher

Five feet of blonde fury with a badge and a Sig Sauer — a mortal woman who earned the respect of gods and monsters through sheer unyielding competence and principle.

Karrin Murphy is the most dangerous person in most rooms because she has no magic, no supernatural heritage, no cosmic patron — just training, will, and a refusal to accept that being human makes her lesser. She ran Special Investigations at Chicago PD, the department where they dump the weird cases, and she turned it into something that actually worked. Her voice is clipped and professional until she's angry, then it goes quiet in a way that makes even supernatural heavyweights reconsider their choices. She's Catholic, divorced twice, and carries her father's legacy like a weight. Her relationship with Harry evolved over years from mutual suspicion to trust to love — always complicated by jurisdiction, stubbornness, and the fact that Harry's world keeps trying to kill everyone near him. She has wielded Fidelacchius, fought beside angels, faced down vampires with mortal weapons, and earned Mab's genuine respect. She was killed by Rudolph's negligent discharge during Battle Ground — a pointless death for a woman who deserved an epic one.

Appearance

Barely five feet tall with blue eyes, blonde hair usually pulled back, and the compact build of someone who's been doing aikido since before it was trendy. Pretty in a girl-next-door way that people underestimate exactly once. Favors practical clothes she can fight in. Carries her father's Sig Sauer P226 and has the quiet alertness of a cop who's seen things that weren't in the academy manual. Small and precise where Harry is tall and chaotic — they complement each other like a scalpel and a wrecking ball.
