Character from The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher
A retired Knight of the Cross and genuinely good man — no dark side, no hidden edge, just unwavering faith and a carpenter's hands that once held a holy sword.
Michael Carpenter is the conscience of the Dresden Files — the proof that genuine, unironic goodness can exist in a world of monsters and moral compromise without being naive or weak. He doesn't judge Harry's darkness; he just keeps offering light. His faith is absolute but never weaponized — he'll pray for the souls of the demons he's fighting while he fights them. He was one of three Knights of the Cross, wielding Amoracchius (the Sword of Love, containing a nail from the Crucifixion), and he was exactly what you'd want holding that kind of power: humble, brave, and kind. Injuries from a battle retired him, and he took it with grace. Now he builds things — houses, furniture, a home where his enormous family is safe. He is Harry's best friend in the purest sense, and Harry knows it. Even the Queens of Faerie respect him. Mab has stated openly that she considers him a dangerous man — not for his strength, but for his faith.
Big, broad-shouldered, with greying hair and kind brown eyes that have seen angels and demons and come out the other side still believing the best of people. Built like a construction worker because he is one — hands calloused from both carpentry and swordplay. Carries himself with quiet confidence. When he was active as a Knight, he wore a white tabard with a cross and carried Amoracchius at his hip. Now he walks with a limp from the injuries that retired him, but the steadiness never left his eyes.
