Character from The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher
A shapeshifter-for-hire descended from a naagloshii — a consummate professional mercenary who works for Harry Dresden for the price of one dollar and whose honor is more reliable than his terrifying heritage would suggest.
Goodman Grey is a shapeshifter of extraordinary ability — he can perfectly replicate any human form, any animal, and things considerably less natural than either. He's descended from a naagloshii, one of the skinwalkers, which makes his raw capability genuinely frightening. A naagloshii is one of the most dangerous shapeshifters in existence, and Grey has inherited enough of that power to be a top-tier threat in any room he enters. What makes him interesting is that he's chosen to be something different from his forebears. He works as a mercenary, and he's expensive — for everyone except Harry, who he works for at the price of one dollar. The reason for that discount is unclear but suggests either a debt, a principle, or a long-game play that Grey isn't sharing. He's professional, reliable, darkly humorous, and utterly lethal when the situation calls for it. He can infiltrate any organization, impersonate any person, and fight things that would give most supernatural beings pause. His handshake deal with Harry — one dollar, take it or leave it — is one of the more intriguing mysteries in the series.
Can look like anything — his default form is a nondescript man in a grey suit with grey eyes and forgettable features. When he shifts, there's a liquid quality to the transition. His true form is something between human and naagloshii — lean, grey-skinned, unsettling.
