Charity Carpenter

Character from The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher

Michael Carpenter's fierce, protective wife — a former magical practitioner who gave up her talent to raise seven children and forge her husband's armor, and who learned to trust Harry Dresden the hard way.

Charity Carpenter is the iron spine of the Carpenter household. She's a tall, strong woman with calloused hands and the no-nonsense bearing of someone who has spent decades managing a household of seven children, a husband who regularly fights literal demons, and the constant low-grade terror that comes with loving a Knight of the Cross. She gave up her own magical talent years ago — a deliberate choice born from trauma and faith — and poured that discipline into metalworking, forging the armor Michael wears into battle. Her relationship with Harry started hostile and stayed that way for years. She blamed him for the dangers Molly faced, distrusted his influence on her family, and saw him as a walking catastrophe that kept showing up on her doorstep. She wasn't entirely wrong. But crisis by crisis, sacrifice by sacrifice, she came to see what Michael always saw — that Harry is fundamentally good, even when he's fundamentally dangerous. By the later years, Charity is one of Harry's most reliable allies, fierce in defense of anyone under her protection, and willing to pick up a weapon herself when the situation demands it.
