Character from The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher
The genius loci of Demonreach island — an ancient, powerful spirit manifesting as a massive stone figure that serves as warden of a prison containing some of the most dangerous beings in existence.
Alfred is Demonreach — or rather, he's the island's intelligence made manifest, the spirit of a place that has existed since before recorded history. He appears as a towering humanoid figure made of dark stone and shadow, featureless except for the suggestion of eyes, radiating a presence that makes most supernatural beings deeply uncomfortable. The island itself is a prison, constructed by the original Merlin to contain things so dangerous that killing them would be worse than keeping them locked up. Alfred is the warden of that prison. He bonded with Harry Dresden when Harry performed a sanctum invocation on the island, making Harry the Warden of Demonreach in a more formal sense. Alfred is loyal to Harry in the way that a building is loyal to its owner — completely, literally, and without any of the emotional nuance that might make that loyalty comfortable. He can suppress magic on the island, track everything that moves on or near it, and bring the full weight of the island's defenses to bear on threats. He speaks in slow, grinding words, thinks in geological timescales, and has exactly zero patience for subtlety. The things imprisoned beneath the island include Ethniu, a Titan, and beings whose release would end the world.
Manifests as a towering humanoid figure of dark stone and earth, vaguely shaped like a man but wrong — too angular, too still. Glowing green eyes set deep in a craggy face. Moves with geological patience. The island itself seems to breathe when he's active.
