Valcotta

Location from The Bridge Kingdom by Danielle L. Jensen

The southern kingdom — Maridrina's rival across the bridge, Zarrah's homeland, and the third point in a continental power triangle where everyone needs the bridge and nobody trusts the people who control it.

Valcotta is the southern continental power — separated from Maridrina by the strait that Ithicana's bridge spans. The kingdom's relationship with Maridrina is one of mutual hostility tempered by the practical reality that both need the bridge for trade. Valcotta would love to control the bridge. So would Maridrina. Ithicana exists in the space between their ambitions. In the sequel series, Valcotta becomes a more nuanced entity through Zarrah's perspective — its military culture, its institutional propaganda about Maridrina, and its own capacity for political manipulation become visible. Valcotta is not the good kingdom to Maridrina's bad one — it's a different set of strategic interests wearing different propaganda.

Appearance

A southern continental kingdom — warmer, more resource-rich than Maridrina, with a military tradition that has spent generations preparing for conflict with the north. The culture is martial and proud, shaped by centuries of rivalry with Maridrina.
