Shipbreakers

Item from The Bridge Kingdom by Danielle L. Jensen

Ithicana's island-mounted catapult weapons — capable of sinking ships before they reach the bridge, the technological backbone of a tiny kingdom's ability to hold off continental navies.

Shipbreakers are Ithicana's answer to the numerical disadvantage of defending an island chain against continental navies. Mounted on strategic islands, they can sink attacking ships before they reach landing distance. Combined with the treacherous seas, the hidden fortifications, and the bridge's chokepoint design, the shipbreakers make any naval assault on Ithicana extremely costly. Their positions are among Ithicana's most closely guarded secrets — knowing where the shipbreakers are means knowing how to avoid them, which means Lara's intelligence about their locations was some of the most valuable information she provided to Silas.

Appearance

Massive catapult-like siege weapons mounted on Ithicana's islands, positioned to cover the sea approaches. They hurl projectiles heavy enough to smash through ship hulls at significant range. The weapons are concealed within the island terrain — part of the defensive architecture that makes Ithicana's islands into fortresses.
