Silas Veliant

Character from The Bridge Kingdom by Danielle L. Jensen

The King of Maridrina — a man who raised twelve daughters as expendable weapons and sent his favorite to seduce and destroy a kingdom, because controlling the bridge is worth more than his children.

Silas Veliant is the series' primary antagonist — not because he's a cackling villain but because he's a rational monster. He wants the bridge. Controlling it would make Maridrina the dominant continental power, end its economic dependence on Ithicana's trade tariffs, and secure his legacy. These are reasonable strategic goals pursued through monstrous means. He raised twelve daughters in an isolated compound, trained them as spies and assassins, fed them propaganda about Ithicana's cruelty, and selected the best one to marry the Bridge King and destroy the kingdom from within. He treats his children as tools — useful, replaceable, and valued only for their function. Lara was his favorite, which in Silas's emotional economy means she was the tool he was most proud of crafting. His downfall comes from the same trait that made him effective: he can't conceive of loyalty that isn't transactional. When Lara turns against him, he's baffled — not because she's strong enough to resist him, but because he genuinely doesn't understand why she would choose love over power. In his world, love is leverage. That someone might choose it freely is an error in his model of human behavior.

Appearance

Imposing and regal with the bearing of a man who has held absolute power long enough for it to feel natural. Hard features, cold eyes, the look of someone who makes calculations about people the way others make calculations about currency. Well-dressed, well-groomed, presenting the image of a just ruler while operating as something far worse.
