Character from The Bridge Kingdom by Danielle L. Jensen
Silas's spymaster and Lara's handler — the man who managed the weaponization of twelve girls and reported their progress to a king who viewed them as inventory.
Serin runs Maridrina's intelligence operations and directly managed the compound where Silas's daughters were raised and trained. He's the operational link between Silas's strategic vision (destroy Ithicana) and its human execution (his children). He trained the girls, evaluated their progress, and helped select Lara as the weapon. He's not a zealot — he's a professional. His loyalty to Silas is transactional and his relationship with the Veliant daughters is clinical. He views them as assets whose performance reflects on his management. This professional detachment is arguably worse than hatred — at least hatred acknowledges the humanity of its object.
Unremarkable by design — a spymaster who has spent a career cultivating forgettability. The kind of man who could sit in a room for an hour without anyone remembering he was there. His eyes are the tell: too watchful, too still, evaluating everything they land on.
