Compound V

Item from The Boys by Eric Kripke

The mutagenic substance that creates superheroes — a Nazi-developed serum that Vought has been secretly injecting into babies for decades, turning pharmaceutical profit into corporate godhood.

Compound V is the axis around which The Boys' entire world turns. Every Supe, every hero, every villain exists because of this blue liquid. It was developed by Frederick Vought in Nazi Germany, refined over decades, and secretly administered to infants to create Vought's superhero roster. The revelation that Supes aren't born — they're manufactured — is the show's central thesis. Heroism is a product. Powers are a pharmaceutical side effect. And the company that makes gods also controls them, markets them, and discards them when they're no longer profitable. Administered to adults, V is unpredictable and often lethal. Administered to infants, it has a higher success rate — which is why Vought's distribution pipeline targets babies. The drug has also been distributed globally, creating superpowered threats abroad that justify Vought's push to militarize Supes domestically.

Appearance

A luminescent blue liquid stored in small vials and syringes. Glows faintly with an otherworldly quality. The vials are clinical and pharmaceutical — this isn't a magic potion, it's a product with a supply chain, a patent, and a profit margin.
