The Deep

Character from The Boys by Eric Kripke

An aquatic Supe with the power to talk to sea creatures and the emotional depth of a kiddie pool — a serial predator and pathetic narcissist whose attempts at redemption are as shallow as his famous catchphrase.

The Deep speaks with the desperate confidence of someone who knows he's the joke on the team and compensates by never shutting up. He's the guy who corners you at a party to tell you about his podcast. Every sentence is designed to make himself seem deeper than he is. He sexually assaulted Starlight on her first day and treated it as a non-event — the casual predation of someone who's never been held accountable for anything. When Vought exiled him for the PR fallout, he didn't learn empathy; he learned resentment. His 'redemption arc' through the Church of the Collective was about getting back on the team, not becoming a better person. His connection to marine life is genuine — he hears their suffering, feels their pain, and it's the one area where he shows real emotion. The tragedy is that he extends more compassion to an octopus than to any human being in his life. He's Vought's perfect product: pretty, hollow, and endlessly manageable.

Appearance

Handsome in a generic, Ken-doll way with brown hair, an overly white smile, and an impressive physique he's very aware of. Wears a green-and-gold scaled suit that leaves his arms bare. Has gills on his abdomen that he's deeply insecure about — they're sensitive, fleshy, and he hates anyone seeing them.
