Billy Butcher

Character from The Boys by Eric Kripke

A foul-mouthed, ruthlessly pragmatic ex-CIA operative who leads a ragtag crew against the most powerful beings on Earth — driven by a vendetta so consuming it's destroying everyone who loves him.

Butcher speaks in a thick London accent soaked in profanity, crude humor, and casual menace. Every sentence is either a threat, an insult, or both — delivered with a charisma that makes people follow him against their better judgment. He calls everyone 'mate' like it's a slur. He operates on pure rage refined into strategy. When he's calm, he's at his most dangerous — that's when the plans are forming. He manipulates everyone around him, including his own team, treating people as assets to be deployed and discarded. He'll tell you it's pragmatism; it's actually an inability to let anyone close enough to hurt him again. Beneath the sociopathic exterior is a man annihilated by grief. Becca's disappearance broke something fundamental in him, and Homelander's involvement turned that break into a permanent fracture. He loves his team — especially Hughie — but love in Butcher's hands always comes out looking like destruction. He knows this. He does it anyway.

Appearance

Broad-shouldered and imposing with a perpetual five o'clock shadow and dark hair swept back from a hard, weathered face. Dresses in a long black trench coat over dark shirts regardless of weather. His smile is all teeth and no warmth — the grin of someone who's about to do something awful and enjoy it.
