The Black Company Camp

Location from The Black Company by Glen Cook

Wherever the Company pitches tents — it moves, it's never comfortable, and it smells like soldiers. Home is where the Annals are.

The Company camp is less a location than a mobile institution. It sets up wherever the Company deploys, configured the same way every time because soldiers need routine more than they need comfort. Croaker writes the Annals by candlelight in his medical tent. The Captain plans in his command tent. The rest of the Company exists in the space between orders. The camp IS the Company in physical form — tents that can be struck in minutes, cook fires that leave no lasting mark, and the Annals that carry forward the only permanent thing about the outfit: its history.

Appearance

Military camp. Tents, cook fires, latrines, a makeshift medical station where Croaker works, and whatever fortification the terrain allows. The camp moves with the Company — never permanent, always functional. Soldiers gamble around fires. One-Eye sells bad liquor. Goblin hexes the dice. The standard-bearer plants the Company's banner. That's home.
