Silent

Character from The Black Company by Glen Cook

Company wizard who never speaks — does his magic without words, fights without sound, and communicates through a silence so complete it became his name.

Silent is the Company's third wizard — more powerful than One-Eye or Goblin individually, but silent about it in every sense. He doesn't speak. He doesn't explain his magic. He does what needs doing and then he's not there anymore. The other wizards bicker and perform; Silent just works. His silence isn't disability — it's choice, or possibly discipline. His magic operates without verbal components, which is rare and unsettling to other sorcerers who rely on incantations. He's the Company member that enemies forget about until it's too late, which is exactly how he likes it.

Appearance

Tall, thin, and quiet in a way that goes beyond not talking. He moves without sound. His presence in a room registers as an absence of noise rather than an addition of person. Dark, still features. Wears dark clothing. Disappears into backgrounds.
