ALO's central landmark — a tree so massive it defines the skyline of an entire world, hiding Sugou's laboratory in its crown and a quest that was never meant to be completed.
The World Tree is ALO's axis mundi — everything in the game world is defined by distance from it. The Grand Quest to reach the top of the tree was the game's supposed ultimate objective, but Sugou rigged it to be impossible: infinite guardian mobs respawned at the upper levels, ensuring no player could reach the crown where he kept his captives. Kirito broke through by refusing to accept the game's rules — a theme. After Sugou's defeat, the tree became accessible and the quest was completed legitimately. It remains ALO's most iconic landmark and the site of its most important memories.
An impossibly vast tree stretching from the center of Alfheim to the upper atmosphere. Its trunk is miles wide, its branches form their own ecosystem, and its roots create a network of underground passages. The crown is perpetually wreathed in golden light. At its base, the city of Alne serves as ALO's neutral meeting ground.
