The Sleeping Knights were formed by Yuuki and other terminally ill patients connected through the Medicuboid — medical-grade VR pods that gave them a virtual life when their real bodies were failing. Their goal was simple: defeat a floor boss with just their members and have their names permanently inscribed on ALO's Monument of Swordsmen. Something that would last after they didn't. They achieved it, with Asuna's help, in one of the series' most emotionally devastating arcs. They are the purest expression of SAO's central theme: virtual worlds create real connections, real memories, and real legacies.
