Laughing Coffin

Character from Sword Art Online by Reki Kawahara

SAO's murder guild — the red players who decided that if death was real, killing was just another game mechanic, and the coffin on their cloaks was the only honest symbol in Aincrad.

Laughing Coffin was founded by PoH on the principle that SAO's death mechanic liberated players from moral constraints rather than imposing them. If dying in the game means dying in real life, then killing in the game means killing in real life — and some people wanted to kill. The guild attracted murderers, sociopaths, and desperate players who convinced themselves that predation was survival. They were eventually raided by the clearers in a bloody battle that left casualties on both sides and traumatized everyone involved. The surviving members scattered but continued killing — Death Gun emerged from their ranks after SAO ended, proving that the guild's ideology outlived the game.

Appearance

Members wear dark cloaks emblazoned with a laughing coffin insignia — a coffin with a grinning face. They operate in shadows, use ambush tactics, and cultivate a reputation for theatrical cruelty. Their visual identity is designed to terrify.
