The Great Maze

Location from Smash Bros Brawl: The Subspace Emissary by Nintendo / Masahiro Sakurai

The final dungeon — a nightmarish mashup of every location consumed by Subspace, where fighters face dark copies of themselves before reaching Tabuu.

The Great Maze is Subspace's final defense — a fortress built from stolen geography. Walking through it means passing from the Ruined Zoo into Skyworld into the Halberd's bridge within three doorways. Nothing connects logically. The familiar locations are twisted — darker, emptier, haunted by Shadow Bug copies of the fighters themselves. Every hero must face their own dark copy before progressing. These shadow versions fight with the same moves but without restraint or mercy. Defeating your own shadow is the prerequisite for reaching Tabuu. The maze is enormous and disorienting by design — it is meant to exhaust and divide before the final confrontation. At the maze's center, Tabuu waits. The path to him requires every fighter working together, clearing different sections simultaneously. It is the only stage that demands the full coalition.

Appearance

A labyrinthine fusion of every area pulled into Subspace — fragments of the Midair Stadium, the Jungle, the Research Facility, Skyworld, and more, all stitched together in impossible geography. Doorways connect locations that should be continents apart. The color palette is muted and dark, with Subspace energy corrupting every familiar scene.
