The Battlefield Fortress

Location from Smash Bros Brawl: The Subspace Emissary by Nintendo / Masahiro Sakurai

An ancient stronghold where three swordsmen converge — Marth's defensive stand becomes the birthplace of the Subspace Emissary's most iconic team.

The Battlefield Fortress is under siege when the story reaches it. Marth defends it alone, holding chokepoints and using the fortress's design to compensate for being outnumbered. Meta Knight arrives and the two fall into synchronized combat without a word. Then Ike crashes in from above. The fortress is built for defense — tight corridors, elevated positions, and fortified walls. It rewards precise swordsmanship over brute force, which is why the swordsman trio excels here. The stone walls echo with the clash of steel and the hum of energy weapons, and the courtyard battles feel like medieval warfare transplanted into a sci-fi invasion.

Appearance

A stone fortress built into a hillside, with battlements, watchtowers, and a central courtyard. The walls show damage from ongoing siege. Torches light the interior. The architecture suggests medieval military design — arrow slits, thick gates, strategic chokepoints. The surrounding landscape is scarred by battle.
