Midair Stadium

Location from Smash Bros Brawl: The Subspace Emissary by Nintendo / Masahiro Sakurai

A floating coliseum where trophies come to life and fight — the opening stage of the Subspace invasion and the last moment of peace the World of Trophies will know.

The Midair Stadium is spectacle given architecture. It exists for one purpose: to watch trophies fight. The atmosphere before the invasion is electric — crowd noise, anticipation, the excitement of watching Mario and Kirby face off in an exhibition match. The princesses watch from elevated boxes. Everything is bright and celebratory. Then the sky splits. The Halberd descends through clouds the color of dried blood, and Shadow Bugs rain onto the field. The Ancient Minister arrives with the first Subspace Bomb. The transition from celebration to catastrophe is instantaneous and total. By the time the bomb detonates, the stadium is consumed — pulled into Subspace, leaving a void where it once floated. The Midair Stadium is the Subspace Emissary's most important location because it is the before picture. Everything that follows is measured against the moment it was lost.

Appearance

A massive arena suspended in the sky, resembling a sports stadium carved from stone and metal. Tiered seating surrounds a flat central battle platform. The sky above is clear blue at the start — then darkens to blood-red as the Halberd descends. Spotlights illuminate the fighters. The scale is enormous, designed to hold thousands of spectators.
