Shadow Bugs are the Subspace Army's most versatile resource. Extracted from Mr. Game & Watch's two-dimensional body, they can be molded into anything: Primid soldiers in various configurations, False copies of existing fighters that look and fight like the originals, and even larger constructs like Duon. The discovery that Mr. Game & Watch naturally produces Shadow Bugs is what enabled Tabuu to build an army at all. Without this resource, the Subspace invasion would have been impossible. Game & Watch was captured and used as a living factory — an unwitting supplier of the material that threatens the world.
Small, dark purple-black particles that swarm and cluster like living smoke. They coalesce into humanoid shapes (Primids) or copy the forms of existing fighters (False Characters). In large quantities, they look like a dark cloud or oil slick. Individual bugs are nearly invisible — the threat is in their numbers.
