Dedede Brooch

Item from Smash Bros Brawl: The Subspace Emissary by Nintendo / Masahiro Sakurai

King Dedede's secret weapon against the apocalypse — timer badges that automatically revive trophied fighters, hidden in plain sight as tacky accessories.

The Dedede Brooches are the most important items in the Subspace Emissary. King Dedede created them after learning about Tabuu's Off Waves — a preemptive countermeasure designed as timer-activated resurrection badges. He pinned them to Luigi, Ness, and himself before Tabuu struck. When the Off Waves hit and every fighter becomes a trophy, the brooches begin counting down. After the timer expires, the wearer is automatically revived — no external rescue needed. Luigi and Ness wake up first, find Dedede's trophy, revive him, and the three become the seed of the resurrection chain that saves everyone. The genius of the plan is its simplicity. Dedede did not try to stop Tabuu. He did not try to warn anyone. He just made sure that SOMEONE would wake up after the attack, and trusted that waking up would be enough.

Appearance

Small golden brooches shaped like King Dedede's face — round, with his characteristic grin. They look like cheap merchandise. A hidden timer mechanism is built into the back. The brooches glow faintly when their countdown activates. They are deliberately unimpressive — no one would look at these and suspect they contain the key to survival.
