The Subspace Emissary's first boss — a monstrous plant that descends on the Midair Stadium and traps both princesses in cages.
Petey Piranha crashes into the Midair Stadium as the Subspace Army's opening move. It snatches Peach and Zelda into separate cages and forces the player to choose which cage to break — the other princess is captured by Wario when Petey falls. It fights by slamming its cages onto the ground, lunging with its massive head, and sweeping its leaf-arms in wide arcs. It is more spectacle than strategy — a wall of plant flesh that demonstrates the Subspace Army's ability to deploy monsters. Its defeat is the first victory of the campaign and sets the pace for the escalating boss encounters that follow.
A gigantic piranha plant with a bulbous spotted head, an enormous gaping maw lined with teeth, leaf-like arms, and a thick green stem for a body. Polka-dotted red and white petals frame its head like a grotesque crown. Towers over the fighters. Carries two metal cages — one in each leaf-hand — holding the captured princesses.
