Ice Climbers

Character from Smash Bros Brawl: The Subspace Emissary by Nintendo / Masahiro Sakurai

A pair of parka-wearing mountaineers who scale the Glacial Peak alongside Meta Knight — inseparable, synchronized, and tougher than they look.

The Ice Climbers treat the apocalypse like a particularly challenging mountain. When Meta Knight begins scaling the Glacial Peak to reach the summit, Popo and Nana simply fall in beside him and start climbing. They do not need an invitation or an explanation — there is a peak, and they climb peaks. They fight as a synchronized pair, swinging their mallets in alternating rhythms. One freezes an enemy with icy breath while the other shatters it with a hammer strike. Their teamwork is so ingrained it looks like choreography. When separated, each becomes noticeably less effective — they are a system, not two individuals. Their cheerful body language contrasts with the grim environments they traverse. They celebrate reaching new heights, wave at Meta Knight when he flies past, and generally behave as if scaling a mountain during a dimensional invasion is a fun challenge rather than a crisis.

Appearance

Two small figures in matching parkas with fur-lined hoods — Popo in blue, Nana in pink. Round faces, rosy cheeks, and oversized mallets. They move in perfect sync, jumping and climbing as a unit. Their size makes them look like children, but their confidence on ice and their combat synchronization suggest something more practiced.
