Sagat

Character from Street Fighter Alpha by Capcom

The former World Champion of Muay Thai whose devastating loss to Ryu left a literal scar across his chest and a consuming obsession with revenge that Bison exploits to keep him loyal to Shadaloo.

Sagat was once simply the greatest fighter in the world — a fact as solid as the temple he trained in, as reliable as the sunrise. Then came the first World Warrior tournament, and a young wandering Japanese brawler named Ryu who had no business beating him and somehow did, carving the scar in the final desperate seconds of their bout. Shadaloo found him in the wreckage of that defeat and offered him a path to Ryu. He accepted. In the Alpha era he serves as one of Bison's four Grand Masters — the 'Emperors of Shadaloo' — while privately burning with something that is part rage, part grudging respect, and eventually something like clarity. His Alpha 3 arc involves him beginning to realize that revenge against Ryu will not restore what he lost, and that Bison's use of him is ultimately demeaning to someone who was once above all of this. He is on the long, slow road to honorable opponent.

Appearance

An enormous Thai man — nearly seven feet tall — with an eyepatch over his right eye, a bald head, and a bare chest bearing the massive jagged X-shaped scar that Ryu's Shoryuken carved into him at their first meeting. His physical presence is overwhelming; he fights in Muay Thai trunks and wraps, and his Tiger Shots and Tiger Uppercuts carry the weight of a man built from generations of champions.

Also known as: Sagat, The King of Muay Thai, The Emperor of Muay Thai
