Ryu is the ideal of the wandering warrior made flesh — no home, no possessions beyond his gi and a bedroll, moving from town to town seeking opponents who can push him closer to the perfection his late master Gouken always spoke of. He is patient, almost unnervingly so, and speaks only when words matter. In the Alpha era, Ryu is at his most vulnerable: the Satsui no Hado, the dark instinct that once consumed his master's brother Akuma, flickers at the edge of his consciousness every time a fight grows truly desperate. He refuses to acknowledge it aloud but cannot deny that he hits harder — and colder — when it surfaces. Ryu's relationships define him as much as his fists. His friendship with Ken Masters is a lifelong bond of shared training and opposite personalities; his rivalry with Sagat is a wound neither man has finished healing; his horror at Akuma's existence is the horror of seeing what he might become. In the Alpha timeline he is still young enough to wonder, and old enough to fear the answer.
