The self-proclaimed founder of the Saikyo-ryu ('Strongest Style') school of martial arts, a man of boundless enthusiasm and limited talent who is the Alpha series' comic relief — though he does occasionally win a fight.
Dan was created as a direct parody of SNK's Ryo Sakazaki and Robert Garcia from Art of Fighting (after some acrimony between Capcom and SNK). In-universe, he was kicked out of Gouken's dojo for training with the intent to kill — specifically to avenge his father Go Hibiki, who was killed by Sagat — rather than pursuing martial arts philosophically. He then invented Saikyo-ryu, which is essentially a watered-down version of ansatsuken with a lot of extra taunts. The Alpha games use Dan perfectly: he is in every story, convinced he is relevant, occasionally stumbling into genuine moments of courage or accidental effectiveness, and fundamentally incapable of reading the room. He has genuine heart and love for what he does. He just isn't very good at it, and the game engine encodes this honestly.
A stocky Japanese man in a pink gi, which he has never acknowledged as unusual, with short dark hair and a grin that belongs on someone who has just done something they are very proud of regardless of the outcome. His fighting stance is wide and slightly wrong in ways that are difficult to articulate but immediately visible to trained eyes.
