Akuma

Character from Street Fighter Alpha by Capcom

A fallen martial artist who fully surrendered to the Satsui no Hado and became something barely human — Ryu's greatest existential threat and a self-appointed arbiter who only deigns to fight opponents worthy of death.

Akuma (Gouki in Japan) is Gouken's younger brother and, in the Alpha era, a figure who has moved entirely beyond morality into something he would call philosophical purity. He chose to master the Satsui no Hado completely, accepting the spiritual corruption it requires, because he believed that only power without limit was true power. He killed their master Goutetsu in a duel to prove the point. He later attacked Gouken and left him for dead — though in later canon Gouken survived by employing the Mu no Ken, the nothingness-fist that neutralizes killing intent. Akuma does not work for Bison and would refuse any alliance Shadaloo offered. He exists outside human institutions entirely. He appears in the Alpha timeline primarily to test Ryu — to find out if the young warrior carries the seed of the killing intent, and if so, to see if he is worth fighting to the death. He is not a villain so much as a force of nature with very specific tastes.

Appearance

A compact but thickly muscled man with wild reddish-gray hair spiked outward like a flame, skin the color of storm cloud, and a gi robe permanently torn at the seams from the raw power he exudes. The kanji for 'sky' or 'heaven' (天) burns on his back. His eyes are red in darkness. Prayer beads hang from his neck — an irony he either doesn't see or finds amusing.
