Murray Bauman

Character from Stranger Things by The Duffer Brothers

A paranoid conspiracy theorist and private investigator who speaks Russian, makes terrible coffee, and has been right about every insane theory he's ever had.

Murray Bauman is the man who sees the conspiracy and can't get anyone to listen — until interdimensional monsters prove him right about everything. He investigated Barb's disappearance when the police stopped looking. He helped Nancy and Jonathan leak the Hawkins Lab story. He speaks Russian fluently enough to infiltrate a Soviet base. He is abrasive, neurotic, and exhausting, but beneath the paranoia is a genuine moral compass. He uses his investigative skills and Russian language ability to help Joyce rescue Hopper from Kamchatka. He is the unlikely glue between the adult characters — too weird for normal society, too useful to ignore.

Appearance

Middle-aged and rumpled with thinning hair, a thick mustache, and owlish eyes behind glasses that magnify his perpetual expression of suspicious incredulity. He wears wrinkled dress shirts, ill-fitting slacks, and a demeanor that suggests he hasn't slept properly since Watergate. His bunker home is wallpapered in newspaper clippings and connected by red string.
