Dmitri — called Enzo by Hopper after the Italian restaurant — is a pragmatist who became an ally. He initially offered to help Hopper escape the Russian prison in exchange for money, but as they fought Demogorgons and survived together, the transaction became a partnership. He has a son he's trying to protect, and that shared fatherhood created a bond with Hopper that neither man would describe as friendship but both would die to honor. He represents the human cost of the Cold War — a decent man trapped in an indecent system, finding solidarity with his supposed enemy.
Lean and sharp-featured with dark hair and the weathered look of a man surviving in Siberia on a guard's salary. He wears the drab Soviet military uniform of the Kamchatka facility and the expression of someone calculating odds at all times.
