Alexei

Character from Stranger Things by The Duffer Brothers

A Russian scientist who defected after helping build the gate machine beneath Starcourt — childlike in his love for Slurpees and American cartoons, killed before he could enjoy freedom.

Alexei is the most innocent casualty of the Starcourt conspiracy. A brilliant physicist forced by the Soviet military to build a gate-opening device beneath a Midwest shopping mall, he defected when he realized the machine's true purpose. He bonded with Murray over vodka and translation difficulties, discovered cherry Slurpees with the wonder of a child, and was shot at the Hawkins Fun Fair by a Russian assassin before he could testify. His death is senseless and cruel — the show's reminder that the Cold War killed kind people as readily as monsters did.

Appearance

Slight and bespectacled with mousy hair and the nervous demeanor of a man who has spent his career surrounded by armed guards. He wears ill-fitting American clothes provided by Murray and clutches a Slurpee like a lifeline.

Also known as: Alexei, Smirnoff
